LIX began as a special order business out of Jill's home in June of 1996 selling lingerie and dancewear. If you're reading this and have never been to Champaign/Urbana Illinois, you may not realize the lack of alternative culture of this area. Jill first moved to Champaign in 1991 and noticed the lack immediately. It took a few years but at the age of 24 Jill opened the retail site on April 11th, 1997 with great success. The following spring a local DJ from Chester Street bar asked Jill to put on a fashion show. The show drew in around 250 viewers. Soon other night clubs were interested and the shows became a staple for LIX . For information on the next show click here.
LIX merchandise includes men's and women's gothic, fetish, club wear, dancewear, shoes and accessories. In October of 1999 LIX added music to its inventory featuring gothic, industrial, black metal and death metal CD's and T-shirts. The store caters to individuals. Many of the items (especially the music and horror t-shirts) are very difficult to find. Jill does not want the shop to ever be "just another store". She searches for the merchandise (and has a lot of fun looking!) at conventions and trade shows and lugs all the stuff back on planes just for all of you wonderful customers! She is happy to take special requests for merchandise. Half the fun of selling an item is finding it in the first place!
